Korean Language
I am slowly but surely teaching myself Korean. People may think that it is difficult to learn with an instructor. Well let me tell you, it is ten times harder trying to teach yourself. At first I taught myself the Korean alphabet. I don’t actually know the “names” per se of the character like I do for the English alphabet, but I can sound out words, even if I don’t know what they are saying. I have also taught myself the Korean and Chinese number system. I am currently working on body parts and soon animals.
There are other various things that I know in Korean as well.
However, the one thing that I really cannot seem to get the grasp of is writing complete sentences. I understand that it is “Subject-Object-Verb” in Korean, but I don’t know how to conjugate the verbs. I think that is where an instructor would come in handy.
I suppose I do have a Korean instructor. Yeanjoon is a Korean exchange student that is living with a lady I work with. I have met/hung out with him twice before. One of those times he told me stuff about Korean culture. We also had a small Korean conversation. He asked me if I had a boyfriend….yes in Korean…and he was surprised that I understood the question. I then told him it was because I had watched Flower Boy Ramen Shop and that is where I learned “boyfriend” and “girlfriend”.
My watching Korean variety shows and dramas I am picking up on words, but still the lack of understanding in how to formulate sentences is frustrating.
Hopefully Yeanjoon can help me with that on Saturday when he comes over again for another Korean lesson. Sunbaenim, kamsahabnida!
